Julie Armstrong

Owner & Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)

Specializing in Memory Care

I have been working in the recreation and retirement industry since 2014. I began my recreation therapy journey at Fanshawe College in the Leisure & Recreation Services program where I recognized my passion for working with older individuals in recreation. After graduation, I worked in a Retirement Living Community, running daily programs and exercises. The Executive Director recognized me for my skills and passion for working with residents with memory impairments and created their first-ever Dementia Day Care Program. I wanted to further increase my knowledge, skills, and passion in recreation therapy and gerontology. I went on to attend Dalhousie University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Therapeutic Recreation. While in school I continued to practice recreation therapy in a Retirement Living Community and in mental health facilities with Nova Scotia Health Authority.

After graduation, I moved to Calgary and worked in a Supportive Living Memory Care unit for residents experiencing cognitive decline & dementia. While there, I recognized the importance of private recreation therapy services, as many older adults with memory deficits benefit from tailored one-to-one recreation programs, whether that be at home on in the community. At Armstrong Senior Care, we help our clients maintain their independence, improve their overall health and happiness, and foster positive relationships with their family and care partners.

Muna Adair

Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)

My passion for working with seniors began in childhood, growing up in a seniors’ home where older adults welcomed me, cared for me, and became like family. Their kindness left a lasting impression and inspired my desire to give back to the generation that helped shape who I am today.

With over 10 years of experience in personal care, medication assistance, and therapeutic recreation, I have supported individuals with diverse needs across mental health, long-term care, and supportive living settings. I hold a diploma in Therapeutic Recreation – Gerontology from Lethbridge Polytechnic and a Bachelor of Therapeutic Recreation from the University of Lethbridge. My professional experience includes Peaks to Pines Senior Lodge, Carewest, and Armstrong Senior Care.

My approach to recreation therapy is person-centred and compassionate, guided by each individual’s interests, abilities, and life experiences. I believe meaningful activities foster connection, purpose, independence, and joy. At Armstrong Senior Care, I strive to create opportunities for older adults to feel valued, engaged, and connected to the things that matter most to them.

For me, recreation therapy is more than a profession; it is a meaningful way to give back to a generation that has given me so much.

Taylor Myshak

Certified Therapeutic Recreation Specialist (CTRS)

My journey in recreation began in 2018 as a Therapy Assistant in a long-term care setting, following the completion of my diploma in Occupational and Physical Therapist Assistant. Since then, I have continued to expand my knowledge and passion for supporting others through completing a Bachelor’s degree in Community Rehabilitation and, most recently, a Bachelor’s degree in Therapeutic Recreation.

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with individuals across the lifespan, from children and adolescents to older adults in a variety of settings. Across these experiences, one belief has remained at the heart of my practice: that play, leisure and recreation are meaningful tools for fostering connection, promoting well-being, building confidence and supporting individuals in achieving their personal goals.

My approach is person-centered and holistic, recognizing each individual’s unique strengths, interests, needs, and aspirations. I value building genuine relationships, collaborating with individuals and their support networks and creating meaningful opportunities that reflect what matters most to each person. I believe that progress is not defined solely by the end goal, but also by the experiences, growth and small successes along the way. By embracing a process-oriented approach, I strive to make recreation a meaningful and enjoyable part of each person’s journey.
